Data Analyst - Division of K-12 Education Innovation and Scholar Success

Description:

This position is responsible for day-to-day data management and analytical support in the Grand Valley State University (GVSU) Division of K-12 Education Innovation and Scholar Success (DEISS). This role is privy to confidential information, as either part of the regular assignment or on a project basis and will participate in data-driven decisions related to the development and implementation of portfolio policies, plans, and initiatives.

Salary & Benefits: Minimum starting salary of $73,000, commensurate with experience.

PRIMARY DUTIES

  • Assist in the production of annual School Performance Reports for all charter public schools authorized by GVSU.
  • Build, test, and deploy reports and dashboards in Power BI and other enterprise reporting platforms.
  • Develop queries and analyze data using internal compliance data and public databases to develop a variety of portfolio-level and school level reports related to student enrollment, demographics, academic growth and achievement, and college matriculation and retention.
  • Identify opportunities to improve data collection/management and the use of data in planning and oversight decisions.
  • Work with university Data Advisory body to design and develop new reporting tools in response to DEISS needs and priorities.
  • Partner with GVSU faculty and staff, as well as external stakeholders, to collaborate on various research and reporting projects.
  • Assist DEISS in ensuring all data management and reporting needs are met with integrity and in a timely fashion.
  • Perform other duties as required/assigned by leadership.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Bachelor's degree in data analytics, computer science, statistics, or related field.
  • Two (2) years of full-time experience in data analysis, educational statistics, data visualization, data management or methods analysis, operations research, organizational research, or program evaluation, educational, personnel or public administration.
  • Expertise in statistical software packages and programming languages such as R, SAS, and SQL
  • Experience with the design and visualization of data with Tableau or Power BI.
  • Proficiency in other Microsoft Office software applications.
  • Ability to conduct data analyses around educational issues.
  • Creative problem-solving skills with the ability to perform independently.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills in dealing with administrative and school-based personnel.
  • Ability to work under pressure and effectively prioritize in a demanding environment.
  • Demonstrate interest and/or experience in education and public policy.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Master's degree in data analytics, computer science, statistics, or related field.
  • Experience working in an institution of higher education.
  • Experience working in or with Michigan's charter public school sector.
  • Experience with Michigan educational data resources such as www.mischooldata.org.
  • Familiarity with major university data systems (Banner, Slate, Workday).
