In the role of Senior Backend Software Engineer, you will join our talented and growing Development team that is an essential part of building Vista Higher Learning's unique and industry leading online language education products sold in the K-12 and Higher Education markets.OUR TECHNOLOGY STACKLanguages/Frameworks: Ruby/Rails, JS, VuePersistence: MySQL, Postgres, Redis, ElasticSearchHosting: AWSIN THIS ROLE YOU WILL:Participate in all aspects of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC)Perform tests to optimize performanceWrite clean code to develop functioning web applicationsWork effectively and collaborate with different team members to deliver on-time and efficient projectsYOU MUST HAVE (MINIMUM REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE)Bachelor's Degree7+ year's Backend Software Engineering experiencewith Ruby, Ruby on Rails or Python + JavaScriptDemonstrated software architectural design experience, including data persistence and API designStrong understanding of Large Language Models (LLMs), LLM APIs and AI toolingStrong understanding of networking and web browser protocolsAdvanced working knowledge of *nix systems, and comfort working at terminal command line.Advanced SQL and DB schema design knowledgeAdvanced working knowledge of git & GitHubExperience collaborating with other departments/teamsStrong communication, listening and interpersonal skills to be able to actively listen to needs and respond to audience appropriatelyIDEAL IF YOU HAVE or ARE (PREFERRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE)Fullstack development experienceKnowledge around LLM evaluation and MLOps practicesExperience with Sagemaker, AWS Poly, Azure Speech ServiceExperience with SQL, Postgres, Redis, ElasticsearchExperience building and deploying high-capacity applications in cloud environments,especially AWSA strong understanding of how to architect solutions for scalability and performanceExperience with Ruby highly preferredExperience in ed-tech, education, language-learning or a similar industryFamiliarity with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and best practices for meeting 2.1 AA complianceLOCATION: Remote/Boston-HybridPosition requires current residence within the United States of America. Ideal candidates will be located within close proximity to our Boston office location and be willing to work a Tuesday/Thursday (2-day minimum) Hybrid schedule.
