Overview

Under direction of the Associate Director of Clinical Research, the Research Assistant (RA) will support research activities in the Antiviral and Vaccines Research Program. They will provide community engagement and recruitment support to assist with the enrollment of trails. They will also provide hands on clinical trial support per study guidelines and standard operating procedures (SOPs), such as assisting in participant visit preparation, conducting study visits, data entry, and other activities required to support the activities of the department. Principal responsibilities:

• Establish relationship within the community to ensure we have strong community engagement and recruitment of participants.

• Provides assistance in preparation of participant visits, such as creation of source documents and chart preparation.

• Assist in data entry and quality control processes.

• Supports participant-related tasks in line with established procedures to maintain high participant retention rates.

• Performs additional functions incidental to research activities as assigned by the Director and Associate director of the program

Required Skills and Abilities

1: Highly organized, self-motivated, outstanding attention to detail.

2: Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, to work collaboratively with a team as well as independently, and to effectively manage change.

3: Excellent verbal communication, written communication, and interpersonal skills.

4: Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and experience ensuring strict patient confidentiality.

5. Excellent analytical and computer skills (e.g., Microsoft word, Excel, PowerPoint Microsoft suite). Willingness to learn new systems, processes and technology.

Preferred Skills and Abilities

1. Education: Bachelor's degree in a related field such as psychology, public health, neuroscience, or a health science discipline. Advanced degrees or coursework in related fields are preferred.
2. Research Experience: Previous experience in research settings, particularly involving clinical trials, psychiatric evaluations, or substance use disorders. Familiarity with data collection software and statistical analysis tools.
3. Certifications: Relevant certifications or training in clinical research, HIPAA compliance, phlebotomy, or medical terminology.
4. Language Skills: Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is advantageous.
5. Community Engagement: Familiarity with community health systems or experience working with community-based organizations, particularly those involved in public health or social services.

Principal Responsibilities

1. Researches and collects data through site or home visit intakes; library research; structured interviews; or through other means for designated research assignments. 2. Records and compiles information related to research data. Codes data accordingly to research specifications. Uses a computer terminal to input and retrieve data and to generate reports. 3. Processes and summarizes data using scientific or statistical techniques. Assists in data interpretation and analyses. Reports on status of research activities. 4. Recruits study participants and ensures that subject recruitment and follow-up are completed per protocol procedures. 5. Orders and maintains inventory of supplies. May assist in designing, developing, and modifying research experiments, procedures, or survey instruments. May assist research and support staff. 6. Performs additional functions incidental to research activities.

Required Education and Experience

Six years of related work experience, four of them in the same job family at the next lower level, and high school level education; or four years of related work experience and an Associate's degree; or little or no work experience and a Bachelor's degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
