Spokane Valley is seeking a highly qualified and enthusiastic employee to serve our city as a regular, full-time maintenance worker to ensure the smooth operation of City facilities, in compliance with appropriate safety and security standards. The ideal candidate will have exceptional professional skills and a strong desire to provide superior service to both internal and external customers. This position is responsible for facility maintenance, grounds keeping, HVAC repair, replacement, and maintenance. This position is responsible for general maintenance and upkeep of facilities related to the City of Spokane Valley. The selected candidate must maintain a positive work relationship with all other department and organization's personnel, while promoting the team concept & workplace environment. This position may require night, and weekend shifts as assigned.
Selected examples of duties include performing building maintenance and repair, including carpentry, plumbing, heating/air conditioning and electrical work, groundskeeping, and coordination with contractors. Ensures safe interior and exterior conditions of building. May be assigned as the staff person on site overseeing facility use during public events.
Desired minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or G.E.D. and three to five years of experience with 5+ years preferred in building maintenance, a closely related field or any equivalent combination of education and experience. A Heating Mechanics I License is also highly desired.
Necessary knowledge, skills and abilities include knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods and procedures used in maintenance and repair activities; skill in operation of various tools and equipment; and the ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time; ability to work safely; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public; ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions. This position requires considerable knowledge, ability and skill in the principles and practices of excellent customer service as practiced in both the private and public sectors.
Special requirements include possession of a valid State driver's license or the ability to obtain one prior to employment. Successful completion of a background check, including a criminal check, and pre-employment physical are requirements of employment in this position at the City of Spokane Valley.
Salary range is $23.50 - $35.57 per hour (Grade 11). This is a represented, FLSA non-exempt position.
