Nurse Next Door -
Nurse Next Door is seeking a compassionate, reliable Companion/Homemaker to support one of our valued clients who requires consistent evening care and companionship. This position provides dedicated, one-on-one support within the client's home for several hours each evening, five days per week.
Our client is straightforward and strong-willed — she values honesty and consistency. Due to ongoing health challenges, she experiences moments that can be emotionally or verbally intense. The ideal caregiver will bring thick skin, a strong heart, and a calm, grounded demeanor, remaining focused on care, respect, and compassion no matter the circumstance.
The client is also a smoker, and caregivers must be comfortable working in an environment where cigarette smoke is present.
Responsibilities of the Companion/Homemaker include, but are not limited to:
Providing companionship through conversation, reading, or shared activities.
Participating in appropriate recreational and sensory-stimulation activities.
Assisting the client with phone calls, letter writing, and light correspondence.
Maintaining a safe and comfortable home environment.
Accompanying the client on walks, errands, or appointments as needed.
Communicating any changes in client condition or schedule to the Care Designer/Agency Manager.
Offering emotional support and promoting a sense of dignity and well-being.
Preparing simple meals and performing light housekeeping or laundry as needed.
Supporting grocery shopping, with or without the client.
Using equipment and supplies safely and responsibly.
High school diploma or GED preferred.
Training in home care, nutrition, and household management preferred.
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
Home Care Aide (HCA) certification or willingness to complete within 180 days of hire (possible pay increase upon completion).
Excellent communication skills and emotional intelligence.
Ability to maintain professionalism, patience, and empathy under stress.
Light housekeeping, cooking, and home management skills.
Ability to write brief daily notes or progress updates.
Commitment to promoting safety, respect, and client-centered care.
Regular light physical activity such as walking, light cleaning, and lifting household items.
Frequent standing, bending, and reaching.
Ability to drive and accompany client on outings.
Client's home setting.
Exposure to normal home care conditions and cigarette smoke.
Must be comfortable maintaining professionalism and compassion in a dynamic care environment.
At Nurse Next Door, we believe care is more than a task — it's a relationship built on trust, consistency, and joy. You'll be supported by a compassionate team that values your heart, skill, and dedication.
