Purpose

Lead the environmental toxicology and human health and ecological risk assessment team.

Responsibilities

Leadership and Direction

  • Mentor and manage staff and processes to ensure effective execution.
  • Provide technical leadership that translates to meeting client needs
  • Ensure work products are quality assured.
  • Deliver projects on time and on budget.
  • Provide oversight and direction to staff on scope, schedule and budget
  • Data analysis and interpretation skills.
  • Develop and execute strategy, budgets and staffing to meet client needs.
  • Able to navigate complexity and ambiguity, connecting dots to provide clarity and direction.

At The Operational And Company Level

  • Manage current client projects to meet objectives.
  • Leverage existing client relationships and firm expertise to develop adjacent industry opportunities.
  • Coordinate with other internal and external subject matter experts to meet project requirements.
  • Provide technical expertise and contribute to work product generation.

Do the Work

  • Identify, hire, train, retain, and develop staff.
  • Provide oversight on projects to ensure that the work is executed on time, on budget, in accordance with the clients requirements, and within company policies and procedures.
  • Align work assignments and monitor performance to ensure the efficient, cost-effective utilization of staff.
  • Keep current on environmental toxicology and risk assessment trends and developments to recommend changes to project approaches and position the firm for future opportunities.
  • Effectively coordinate with the finance team to support budgeting, project tracking and invoicing.

  • An understanding of project accounting and financial metrics such as utilization, multiplier and profitability.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors of Science in environmental toxicology, biology, or related field and 10 years of experience, or
  • Masters or Ph.D. in environmental toxicology, biology, or related field and 5 years of experience.
  • Experience shall include a minimum of 3 years in a consulting firm or a regulatory agency.
  • Experience with agriculture, including pesticides and production agriculture practices. Experience in California is a plus.
  • Diplomat of the American Board of Toxicology (DABT) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing staff, developing and executing complex scopes and adhering to budgets and schedule.
  • Knowledge and background of the human and ecological risk assessment industry, including involvement in professional organizations such as Society of Toxicology (SOT), Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC), International Society of Exposure Science (ISES).

Salary and eligible variable compensation (if any) commensurate with experience. Range $120,000 - $190,000 and includes a comprehensive benefits package.

Physical Demands and Working Environment

  • Primarily indoor professional office environment which may include bright/dim light, noise, fumes, odors, and traffic.
  • Mobility around an office environment.
  • Frequent and prolonged use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers and filing cabinets.
  • Partially outdoor work environment which may include adverse weather conditions, varying temperatures, excessive noise, and/or potential hazards.
  • Primarily local travel during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be required according to the needs of the business.
  • Occasional lifting or carrying up to 20 pounds.
  • Occasional pushing or pulling up to 20 pounds.
  • Occasional reaching outward or above shoulder.
