Exploring Emotional and Cognitive Development in Children with Extraordinary Memories

The Division of Perceptual Studies (DOPS) at UVA's School of Medicine is seeking an undergraduate Federal Work-Study student to assist Dr. Saeedeh Sadeghi on a research project investigating children'spurported past-life memories. This is a part-time position (1020 hours/week) with remote flexibility. Some in-person meetings or support for behavioral experiments at the Division's downtown Charlottesville office will be required, with frequency determined by project needs.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Conducting literature reviews on emotional and cognitive development in children.
  • Assisting the research team in recruiting and communicating with parents of children with past-life memories.
  • Assisting in conducting online or behavioral tasks designed for young participants.
  • Supporting qualitative and/or quantitative data coding and documentation.
  • Completing UVA Institutional Review Board training in research ethics.
Qualifications:
  • Experience or coursework in psychology, neuroscience, cognitive science, or related fields preferred.
  • Strong communication skills and comfort interacting with children (3-6 years old) and their families.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and/or survey platforms such as Qualtrics.
  • Experience in interacting with or collecting data from children is a plus.

Physical Demands: This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
