Product Director

  2025-06-12     Wild Rye     all cities,ID
Description:

Location: Ketchum, ID
Job Type: Full-Time In-Person
Start Date: ASAP
Department: Product
Reports to: CEO

About Wild Rye: Wild Rye is a fast-growing, B-Corp certified women's outdoor apparel brand based in Sun Valley, Idaho. We create beautifully designed technical apparel to empower women in the outdoors and beyond, with a particular focus on snow and bike categories. As a mission-driven company, we're passionate about increasing inclusivity in the outdoors and protecting the places we play through sustainable product development, a climate-neutral supply chain, and commitments to 1% for the Planet and Protect Our Winters (POW).

About the Role: We're looking for a hands-on, strategic Product Director to lead the Wild Rye product department during a pivotal growth phase. This individual will be both the business and organizational backbone of the product team—responsible for product strategy, line planning, category leadership, lifecycle management, cross-functional alignment, and consumer insights.

You!
Wild Rye is on the hunt for an ambitious, organized, and highly diplomatic Product Director who's equal parts left brain and right brain. You'll be the business backbone of our product team—leading PLM, merchandising, pricing, and product presentations—while wearing many hats. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with a pulse on the outdoor industry (especially bike and snow categories) and a deep understanding of the Wild Rye woman. You'll drive product strategy, oversee roadmaps, research market trends, and use customer feedback to fine-tune our growing line of mountain-ready apparel. As the go-between for product and the rest of the team, you'll make sure every department has what they need to shout about our gear from the rooftops. We're looking for someone who communicates clearly, leads confidently, and isn't afraid to roll up their sleeves in a scrappy, fast-moving, four-person (plus contractors) department. This is your chance to help shape a high-growth, women-led outdoor brand—and evolve your role as we evolve, too.

This role is based in-person at our HQ in Ketchum, ID. Due to the collaborative, hands-on nature of the position and its leadership responsibilities, this is non-negotiable.

What You'll Do

Product Leadership & Strategy

  • Own product strategy and roadmap across categories.
  • Develop and execute long-term line plans based on market insights, sales data, margin targets, and brand objectives.
  • Lead category innovation and positioning by deeply understanding our customers and the competitive landscape.
  • Create detailed seasonal product briefs with input from Design, Development, Sales, and Marketing.
  • Drive Wild Rye's collab efforts with external brands in partnership with the CEO & Marketing Director team.
  • Must have first-hand experience within core categories - in particular bike and snow.
  • Guide seasonal merchandising and color strategy with a consumer- and retailer-focused lens.
  • Ensure assortments are tightly curated for SKU efficiency and profitability.
  • Product and assortment lifecycle management leadership.
  • Manage product costing in partnership with development.
  • Monitor margins, target costs, and price positioning.
  • Own the product department budget.
  • Track and share emerging product and material trends.
  • Lead consumer feedback efforts (e.g., surveys, beta testing, product reviews).
  • Maintain deep knowledge of competitor offerings and category benchmarks.

Cross-Functional & Go-To-Market Leadership

  • Serve as the main product liaison across departments (Design, Sales, Ops, and Marketing).
  • Oversee sample coordination and product launch efforts.
  • Lead the development of seasonal product assets in partnership with Marketing (e.g., line sheets, product descriptions, catalogs).
  • Create and manage seasonal calendars and ensure cross-functional milestone alignment.

Team & Project Management

  • Supervise a small but scrappy team of internal staff and contractors.
  • Evaluate and implement product management tools or PLM systems.
  • Drive execution, timelines, and accountability across product-related initiatives.

Sustainability & Brand Ethos

  • Embed sustainability into every stage of the product process.
  • Champion our values of equity, inclusion, and women's leadership in outdoor and business spaces.

What We're Looking For

  • 7 years (minimum) of experience in product or merchandising roles; at least 1–2 years in a leadership role, managing a team.
  • Strong background in women's outdoor or technical apparel—bike and snow categories highly preferred.
  • Proficient in Excel; strong analytical and data skills.
  • A strategic thinker and confident communicator who thrives in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Understanding of apparel development and willingness to roll up your sleeves.
  • Passion for elevating women in the outdoors and business.
  • Competitive salary (DOE)
  • Medical benefits
  • 401(k)
  • Flexible work hours (with a powder clause + lunch ride encouragement!)
  • Paid holidays + Flexible PTO + Fresh Air Fridays (early outs)
  • Relocation support, if applicable
  • Wild Rye product allocation + industry perks

Work Where You Play:
Our HQ is based in Ketchum/Sun Valley, Idaho—home to epic singletrack, wild rivers, lift-access and backcountry skiing, and a lively outdoor community. Join a team of passionate women (and a few men!) committed to creating a more inclusive and inspired outdoor space for all.
