Description:

Housing Idaho is seeking an Executive Director to establish and lead a new state-level housing abundance and advocacy organization. The Executive Director will be responsible for the transition of Neighbors for Boise, a successful local initiative, into a statewide nonprofit organization.

The Executive Director will focus on advocacy and education on topics such as land use and regulation policies, tax policy, and development financing that support greater affordable housing abundance, while increasing awareness of the effects of market-driven development on Idaho communities.

To achieve these goals, they will:

  1. Cultivate and maintain relationships statewide—engaging legislators, local officials, business leaders, developers, housing-focused organizations, rural and urban communities, and philanthropic partners.
  2. Recruit, lead, and mentor staff while establishing operational systems, policies, and culture required for effective scaling.
  3. Design and execute fundraising strategies—including grants, membership dues, sponsorships, and major gifts—to secure sustainable revenue.
  4. Demonstrate strong financial acumen, including preparing and monitoring budgets, funding reports, and revenue forecasts, with clear reporting to the Board.
  5. Advance an effective policy agenda: engaging across the political spectrum, including Idaho's conservative majority, to build support for pro-housing legislation.
  6. Represent Housing Idaho across Idaho's metropolitan centers and rural communities.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Establish and lead Housing Idaho from its inception.
  • Develop and implement plans and campaigns to address housing affordability and supply issues.
  • Build and maintain relationships with policymakers, community leaders, developers, and stakeholders.
  • Secure funding through grants, donations, and memberships.
  • Oversee organizational operations, including budgeting, staff management, and program development.
  • Serve as the primary spokesperson and advocate for housing policies at the state level.
  • Monitor housing trends and legislative developments to inform advocacy strategies.
  • Foster a collaborative, mission-driven organizational culture.

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Proven leadership in advocacy, nonprofit management, or housing sectors.
  • In-depth knowledge of Idaho and Mountain West housing policies, land use regulations, and development processes.
  • Successful experience in fundraising, grant writing, and financial management.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.

Compensation:

  • Salary Range: $90,000 - $100,000
  • Benefits include health insurance, retirement plan, and paid time off.

Other Terms:

  • Full-time, exempt or contracted position.
  • Must be Idaho-based; remote work options available with willingness to travel to Boise during legislative sessions.
  • Travel within Idaho required.
