Job Description
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Plans, evaluates, designs, installs, configures, troubleshoots, and analyzes performance of telecommunication networks and systems; resolves technical issues.
- Ensures all work activities are performed in accordance with policies, practices, procedures, standards, and rules of the company. Complies with regulations and procedures required by external agencies.
- Coordinates and monitors work activities using approved applications and tools for projects as required to perform engineering tasks. Prepares cost estimates and documents project work using established guidelines.
- Leads, facilitates, and coordinates work activities of others within the work group, team, department, or other entity as necessary, and assumes the role of project manager for assigned tasks.
- Utilizes economic analysis techniques in project development and approval; participates in development of business/technical plans by establishing measurable goals, objectives, and requirements. Performs routine engineering activity with minimum direction from higher-level employees.
- Demonstrates thorough knowledge of networks, components, and facilities, enabling more efficient responses to projects and problems. Participates in developing relevant standards.
- Learn AEP's organizational structure and the specific role and responsibility of one's organizational unit.
Minimum Requirements
SG 08 Telecom Consultant Sr (Average Starting Pay between $96,110-124,940):
Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, computer science, telecommunications, or related field; or an associate's degree with 2 years relevant experience; or HS diploma/GED with 4 years relevant experience.
Experience: 5 years relevant work experience.
Licenses/Certifications: Valid Driver's License required.
SG 09 Telecom Consultant Sr (Average Starting Pay between $112,869-146,730):
Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, computer science, telecommunications, or related field; or associate's degree with 2 years relevant experience; or HS diploma/GED with 4 years relevant experience.
Experience: 10 years relevant work experience.
Licenses/Certifications: Valid Driver's License required.
Other Requirements
- Strong understanding of IP, DWDM, and SONET transport networks.
- Knowledge of static and dynamic IP networks, QoS policies, and traffic engineering.
- Design services such as EVPL, EPL, Static, Dynamic, OTN on IP, SONET, DWDM, Microwave networks.
- Preferred certifications: Engineering in Training (EIT) or Cisco CCNA.
- Demonstrate technical skills and analytical techniques for complex assignments.
- Understand telecom equipment, materials, systems, and business processes.
- Stay updated with new technologies and procedures.
- Develop new approaches for decision-making in uncertain situations.
- Analyze and improve business processes.
- Collaborate and communicate effectively.
- Lead meetings and facilitate training sessions.
- Travel occasionally.

Range: $96,110.00-124,940.00 USD
The Physical Demand Level for this job is: S – Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently. Involves mostly sitting, with occasional walking or standing.
